SOMA - Self Organizing Multimedia Architecture

SOMA is a cooperative project of the Institue for Information Technology (ITEC) and the Institute for Networked and Embedded Systems at the Klagenfurt University. SOMA is funded by the KWF for three years to aims to define and test an architecture, were smart sensor, intelligent distribution networks and social software add up to an overall self organizing multimedia experience.

Innovative Interfaces in Web-Based Multiplayer Games

Funded by the Innovationsscheck of the FFG the company OSIOS contracted ITEC to investigate their current game development project. Goal of the project is to evaluate the existing interface and model a new one, which is more convenient to casual gamers.

Bottom Up Metadata

Funded by the Innovationsscheck of the FFG the company Welcome Onlinesprachlösungen GmbH contracted ITEC for applied research in user generated metadata. In this project existing algorithms and methods are investigated upon applicability in a real world scenario (online portal) and a prototypical implementation as proof of concept is done.

IT Architecture of Social Web Platforms

Funded by the Innovationsscheck of the FFG the company spirit in projects contracted ITEC for consulting and recherches regarding social web platforms. In this project we focus on existing tools, patterns and paradigms for the development of social web platforms like YouTube, del.icio.us, Mr. Wong, Flickr, and so on. Challenge is to find and try the most promising toolkits (Ruby on Rails, Java, Groovy, Grails, JFaces, GWT) and ensure performance and long-term support by the developing community.

Web 2.0 in Companies

Funded by the Innovationsscheck of the FFG the company IFA Unternehmensberatung GmbH contracted ITEC for consulting and recherches regarding the Web 2.0 phenomenon in context of companies. We investigated how Web 2.0 effects and methods like participation, collaboration and simplicity can be applied within companies. We surveyed a number of tools and reviewed them regarding simplicity, licenses, capabilities, requirements and sustainability.
